Ok, so I've had a very industrious weekend and got the client to the point where you can now configure the transfers view to display as a list instead of a tree, a-la the original Soulseek client.

Perhaps a dialog when the user first runs the client that gives them the choice? Also, do users who prefer old style search results feel as empathically about old style transfers? That's certainly something I can do. However I do think that seeing as so many users do prefer the old style, it should be made much more apparent that the option exists for old style search results, as I suspect most are not aware of it. It's clear from this poll that people's preference toward one style or the other is split pretty evenly. I'm not sure if setting it as the default is the answer. It's still the number one place to find all sorts of rare and random music from all around the world. But perhaps other groups haven't had any problem?Big thanks anyway for all the years of a great program. I can't help but feel that the new design changed things and kinda killed off some of the communities. Now the rooms I used to go to each morning are dead and no one really speaks much any more. It would be awesome if we could also filter search results for specific terms or filter out terms by adding a minus sign in front.I also used to be a regular in the chat rooms, and would hang out with friends daily there for years, until the new build. I think if we could have a hybrid of both versions, combining the best features that would be great.I like to be able to sort my search results by the different columns depending on what information is important to me.

I didn't understand what the QT upgrade was for. The search results in particular, but the overall layout was preferable for me. I MUCH prefer the original Soulseek which I began using in 2002. You'd be able to move the columns around and change the sorting so you should be able to do anything you want.

The logic for actually arranging all the information in a tree where every column can be a category index is quite complicated, but what I'm describing above is very similar - it would be a table where identical information in the same column won't repeat, so it would have a tree-like appearance. Two views are difficult to maintain, as I've discovered since implementing old-style search results.

I'd rather have one single view than two separate ones, the non-default of which most users don't even know about. The tradeoff is that it won't be possible to show the overall progress for each folder and user, as those all appear on the same row.

One arrangement I'm considering is a table where repeating information in a given column is only shown the first time, so for example a series of transfers from the same user will only show the username on the first row, and the folder name on the first row of each set of files from the same folder. The top feature request that has not yet been addressed is, which seems to imply that a lot of you would like to go back to the way these were displayed in the original Soulseek client.
